Shaftesbury Youth Club
Following feedback and demand from the community a proposal was developed to provide an accessible community supermarket for people in the area. Following a successful application to the community grants scheme funding was awarded help establish the supermarket.
The other element of the project was to host a number of regular social lunches aimed at engaging people who may be isolated or lonely.
Outcomes
The supermarket regularly supports people who are in financial hardship by providing them with access to low cost food. Whilst visiting the supermarket staff and volunteers can make links and provide other advice to customers.
The regular social activities provide a much needed lifeline to isolated people in the area that has enabled them to develop new friendships.
